Mumbai gears up for the grand Janmashtami 2025 celebrations with the traditional Dahi Handi events, where Govinda Pathaks form human pyramids to break earthen pots filled with curd and butter, symbolizing Lord Krishna’s childhood mischief. 

While the festival is filled with excitement and devotion, safety concerns remain at the forefront. This year, mandals across the city are stressing the use of protective gear like helmets, knee pads, and harnesses, alongside daily training and fitness routines. The tragic death of 11-year-old Mahesh Jadhav during a practice session in Dahisar has further highlighted the risks, leading to stricter safety measures and renewed calls for adherence to age limits and pyramid height restrictions. For many Govinda Pathaks, the spirit of devotion remains alive, but with a stronger commitment to ensuring that faith, tradition, and safety go hand in hand.
