World’s Highest Motorable Road to Surpass Umling La: BRO Begins Construction Near LAC in Eastern Ladakh

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has launched the construction of the world’s highest motorable road near Hanle in Eastern Ladakh, connecting Likaru to Fukche via Mig La Pass, which lies at an astounding altitude of 19,400 ft. Once completed, this route will overtake the current record-holder Umling La (19,024 ft).

The 64 km strategic roadway, being developed in the Demchok sector, is crucial for enhancing Indian armed forces’ mobility near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. Notably, a team of female BRO engineers has commenced this pioneering task. The route will traverse key areas including Likaru, Mig La, and Fukche, with Fukche located just 3 km from the LAC.

This move signifies both strategic importance and engineering excellence in one of the world’s harshest terrains.
