Uro-Oncologist Warns of Rising Urological Cancer Cases Across All Age Groups

Hyderabad, June 21, 2025 — Cancer is no longer confined to older populations. According to Dr. Adapala Rajesh Kumar Reddy, Consultant Uro-Oncologist at the Asian Institute of Nephrology and Urology (AINU), urological cancers — such as bladder, kidney, and prostate cancers — are increasingly affecting individuals of all age groups, regardless of gender or lifestyle.

“We are seeing a disturbing trend where patients as young as their 20s and 30s are being diagnosed with bladder and kidney cancers,” said Dr. Reddy. “This disease is no longer limited by age, gender, or traditional risk factors like smoking.”

🚨 Concerning Trends

Dr. Reddy noted that while lifestyle factors such as tobacco use, poor hydration, and exposure to industrial chemicals have traditionally been linked to urological cancers, many new patients have no such history, raising concerns about environmental pollutants, genetic predisposition, and undiagnosed risk factors.

🧬 Who Is at Risk?

Bladder Cancer: Commonly linked to smoking and exposure to dyes or industrial chemicals, but now seen in non-smokers.

Kidney Cancer: Increasingly found incidentally during imaging for unrelated issues.

Prostate Cancer: Remains a top concern for men over 50 but is being diagnosed earlier.

🧪 Need for Early Detection

Dr. Reddy emphasized the importance of early screening, especially for individuals with a family history of cancer or recurrent urinary symptoms.

“Simple tests like urine cytology, ultrasound, and blood work can catch these cancers early when they are still curable,” he said.

🩺 Recommendations:

Don’t ignore symptoms like blood in urine, persistent abdominal pain, or urinary changes.

Maintain hydration, avoid tobacco, and undergo routine health screenings, especially after age 30.

Be aware of occupational risks and discuss family history with your healthcare provider.

As cancer patterns evolve, experts stress the need for public awareness, early intervention, and comprehensive urological checkups, regardless of age or background.
