Indian cricket veteran Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL15) due to a knee injury, dealing a blow to both his Australian franchise and fans eager to see him in action this season.
The injury has also forced Ashwin to withdraw from the Hong Kong Sixes, scheduled from November 7 to 9, where he was set to represent an invitational side. According to team sources, Ashwin sustained the injury during a recent training session and has been advised rest and rehabilitation by medical experts.
In his absence, former India opener Robin Uthappa has been named as his replacement for the Hong Kong Sixes. Uthappa, known for his explosive batting and vast T20 experience, is expected to bring stability and flair to the side.
Ashwin, one of India’s most decorated all-rounders, has had a long and demanding year of cricket. His absence will be felt, particularly as he was expected to contribute with both ball and bat in the BBL’s shorter format.
Medical reports indicate that while the injury is not career-threatening, the 38-year-old will need several weeks of rest before resuming full training. The setback could also affect his availability for India’s domestic and international fixtures later in the season.
Fans and teammates have wished Ashwin a speedy recovery, while cricket analysts note that his absence creates opportunities for younger spinners to step up in the international T20 arena.
