Pant Returns to Indian Test Squad; Akash Deep Replaces Prasidh Krishna for South Africa Series

Pant Returns to Indian Test Squad; Akash Deep Replaces Prasidh Krishna for South Africa Series

India have announced their 15-player Test squad for the upcoming two-match home series against South Africa, and it brings two notable changes. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant makes his return after recovering from a foot fracture, being reinstated as vice-captain. Alongside him, pace-bowler Akash Deep is recalled, replacing Prasidh Krishna.

The first Test is set to begin on 14 November at Kolkata, followed by the second in Guwahati on 22 November. Pant’s return is seen as a major boost for India’s batting and wicket-keeping departments, as he had proved his fitness by scoring 90 in an India A match against South Africa A. Meanwhile, Akash Deep’s inclusion adds depth to India’s pace attack ahead of a high-stakes series.

Prasidh Krishna, who had been part of the earlier squad, misses out this time. The selectors’ decision underscores their strategy to blend experience with fresh options for an important home assignment.

In summary, India’s squad change signals both confidence in Pant’s recovery and a proactive approach to strengthening the bowling unit — setting the stage for a competitive series against a strong South African side.
