In a heart-wrenching incident on April 22, 2025, a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, claimed the life of Manjunath, a resident of Shivamogga, Karnataka. His wife, Pallavi, and their 18-year-old son, Abhijeya, were present during the attack. Pallavi recounted that after Manjunath was shot dead, she and her son confronted the terrorists, pleading to be killed as well. The terrorists reportedly spared them, instructing them to inform Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the attack. Pallavi expressed her desire to return to Shivamogga only with her husband's body, requesting the authorities to arrange for an airlift

The attack, which occurred in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, resulted in the deaths of at least 28 tourists, with over a dozen more injured. Witnesses stated that the terrorists singled out non-Muslims, checking for circumcision and asking victims to recite Islamic verses before shooting them. The assailants were reported to be in military-style uniforms and emerged from nearby forests, opening fire on the crowd .

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and civil society. President Droupadi Murmu described it as a "dastardly and inhuman act," while Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the violence and assured that those responsible would be brought to justice .

Pallavi's emotional plea and the tragic loss of her husband have highlighted the horrors of religiously motivated violence and the vulnerability of tourists in conflict zones. The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of non-Muslim visitors in the region.
