Indian Railways Overhauls Reservation System: Aadhaar-Based Tatkal Booking, Early Charting, and Increased Fares

In a major move to streamline the passenger booking experience and curb misuse of the Tatkal quota, Indian Railways has introduced an Aadhaar-based authentication system for Tatkal ticket reservations. The new system aims to enhance transparency and improve security for last-minute bookings. Additionally, the Railways will now prepare the first passenger chart four hours before the train's departure, instead of the earlier schedule.

This change is expected to assist passengers in better planning and availability updates. However, the fare structure has also been revised, with a hike across several classes under the Tatkal scheme. Authorities have urged passengers to link their Aadhaar with their IRCTC account to continue seamless bookings. These reforms are part of a broader digital push by Indian Railways to improve efficiency and passenger convenience.
