The Gujarat government has allocated ₹370 crore in scholarship assistance to benefit nearly 13 lakh students across the state, reinforcing its focus on strengthening access to education and supporting student welfare. The announcement was made by Chief Minister, who underlined the state’s continued commitment to ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic progress for deserving students.
Highlighting Gujarat’s transformation in the education sector, the Chief Minister noted that the number of colleges in the state has grown dramatically over the past two decades. From just 775 colleges in 2001, Gujarat today boasts more than 3,200 higher education institutions, reflecting sustained investments in educational infrastructure and policy reforms aimed at expanding opportunities for youth.
The scholarship aid is expected to benefit students from economically weaker sections, enabling them to pursue higher education without the burden of rising costs. The government views education as a key driver of social mobility and economic growth, and officials say such initiatives help create a skilled workforce ready to meet future challenges.
The expansion of colleges, coupled with increased scholarship funding, has positioned Gujarat as one of India’s leading states in higher education development. The latest allocation not only provides immediate financial relief to students but also signals the government’s long-term vision of nurturing talent and shaping the future of the state through education.
