In a tragic incident on April 22, 2025, terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in Pahalgam, a popular destination in Indian-administered Kashmir. The attack occurred in Baisaran Valley, a meadow area known for its scenic beauty, around 2:30 PM local time.

According to official sources, at least 28 people were killed, including 24 Indian nationals from various states, two locals from Jammu and Kashmir, and two foreign tourists from Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, over a dozen others were injured. The victims included a 26-year-old Indian Navy officer and an Intelligence Bureau official.

The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the group expressed opposition to demographic changes in the region, citing the settlement of over 85,000 outsiders following the revocation of Kashmir's special status in 2019.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site to review the security situation. The incident coincided with a visit from U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who expressed condolences and solidarity with India.

The attack has raised concerns about the safety of tourists in the region and the ongoing security challenges in Kashmir. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers, and heightened security measures have been implemented in the area.

The international community has also condemned the attack, with leaders from various countries expressing their support for India and calling for an end to terrorism.
