Seoul: Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, during an official visit to South Korea, issued a stern warning to the international community about Pakistan’s continued role in fostering terrorism. Speaking at a high-level dialogue with Korean think tanks in Seoul on Monday, Banerjee emphasized that turning a blind eye to Pakistan’s actions could have global consequences.

"Breeding a snake in your backyard and expecting it to bite only your neighbour is the last thing one should think of," Banerjee remarked, drawing a powerful analogy about the dangers of tolerating terrorism for political gain.

The MP was part of an all-party parliamentary delegation from India, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties and engage in strategic discussions with Korean counterparts.

A History of Terror Attacks

Banerjee referenced a series of major terror incidents linked to Pakistan:

9/11 attacks in the US

26/11 Mumbai attacks

Uri and Pahalgam attacks in India

He further pointed out that Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind of 9/11, was found in Abbottabad, Pakistan, highlighting the country’s long-standing sheltering of global terrorists.

“Once that snake is unleashed, it will end up biting whoever it can. A snake remains a snake,” Banerjee cautioned.

Geopolitical Context

His remarks come shortly after a temporary de-escalation of on-ground hostilities between India and Pakistan following a military understanding on May 10. Directors general of military operations from both nations agreed to halt military actions, though tensions remain high diplomatically.

India’s Strong Message Abroad

Banerjee’s statement adds to India’s consistent diplomatic messaging on Pakistan’s role in global terrorism, reinforcing concerns at international forums. The Seoul dialogue is seen as part of India’s broader strategic engagement in East Asia.
