The meeting came just a day after the United States raised tariffs on Indian imports to 50% in response to India’s purchase of Russian oil. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to defence cooperation, energy collaboration, and joint efforts toward a fairer global order. Discussions also included finalizing preparations for President Putin’s planned visit to India by the end of 2025. India emphasized its sovereign right to choose trade partners, dismissing the U.S. tariffs as unfair, and underscored its intent to continue purchasing discounted Russian crude to meet national energy needs.
