In a moment that resonates with the echoes of India's rich tapestry, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on October 1, 2025, unveiled a ₹100 commemorative coin at the centenary celebration of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in New Delhi. This event, held at the Ambedkar International Centre, was not merely a ceremonial occasion but a profound tribute to a century of unwavering dedication to the nation.
The coin, a masterpiece of design, bears the national emblem on one side, symbolizing the unity and integrity of the Republic of India. On the reverse, for the first time in independent India's history, the visage of Bharat Mata is immortalized. Seated majestically on a lion, her right palm extended in the varada mudra—a gesture of benevolence and granting of boons—she gazes serenely, embodying the spirit of the nation. Surrounding her are the devoted swayamsevaks, bowing in reverence, their presence underscoring the deep-rooted connection between the RSS and the nation's cultural ethos.
Emblazoned on the coin is the RSS motto: "Rashtriya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama," translating to "Everything is dedicated to the nation; everything belongs to the nation; nothing is mine." This inscription encapsulates the essence of the RSS's philosophy—selfless service and unwavering commitment to the country's welfare.
The unveiling ceremony was graced by dignitaries including RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. In his address, PM Modi lauded the RSS for its role in nation-building, emphasizing its contributions to fostering national unity, character building, and providing social service during times of need. He described the organization as an embodiment of "timeless national consciousness," integral to India's aspirations of becoming a developed nation by 2047
The commemorative coin and the accompanying postage stamp, which features RSS members' participation in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, serve as symbols of the organization's enduring legacy. These artifacts not only honor the RSS's contributions but also reflect the nation's deep respect for its cultural and historical roots.
However, the release of the coin has not been without controversy. Opposition parties have raised concerns, alleging that the depiction of Bharat Mata on the currency promotes a sectarian agenda and distorts historical narratives. They argue that the RSS's role in India's freedom struggle has been overstated, with some asserting that the organization did not participate in the independence movement
Nevertheless, the unveiling of the ₹100 coin marks a significant moment in India's numismatic history. It is a testament to the nation's evolving identity and its efforts to honor the symbols and figures that have shaped its journey. The coin stands as a reminder of the ideals of unity, sacrifice, and service—values that continue to inspire generations.

As we hold this coin, let us reflect on its significance. It is more than just a piece of currency; it is a symbol of our shared heritage, our collective aspirations, and the enduring spirit of Bharat Mata. In the intricate design and the profound symbolism it carries, the coin invites us to pause and remember the paths tread by those who came before us, and to honor the legacy they have left behind.
In the quiet moments, as the coin rests in our hands, may we find inspiration to contribute to the nation's progress, to uphold its values, and to continue the journey towards a brighter future. For in the folds of history and the embrace of tradition, we find the strength to build a nation that stands united, resilient, and proud.
