Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday flagged off India's first electric SUV e-VITARA from the Maruti Suzuki Motor Plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. This electric car will not only make its mark on Indian roads but also in more than 100 countries of the world, including big markets like Japan and Europe. On this occasion, PM Modi said that this step is not only historic for India's automobile industry but is also a big change towards self-reliant India. During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated the assembly line of e-VITARA and also launched the TDS Lithium-ion Battery Plant. This plant will locally produce hybrid battery electrodes for the first time in India, which will give a new impetus to the electric vehicle sector in the country.
This move by Maruti Suzuki will prove to be a milestone in giving India a strong position in the global EV market.
