KYC update scams have become one of the most common forms of cyber fraud in India. Criminals send fake SMS or WhatsApp messages pretending to be from your bank, warning that your account will be blocked if you don't update your KYC immediately.

These messages often contain phishing links or phone numbers where fraudsters impersonate bank officials. Once you click the link or share OTPs, Aadhaar, or bank details, your sensitive data is compromised—leading to unauthorized transactions or identity theft. In some cases, scammers even convince users to install remote access apps, allowing them to take full control of the victim’s phone. To stay safe, never click on unverified links, don’t share personal information over phone calls, and always verify any KYC request by contacting your bank directly. According to recent cybercrime reports, thousands have fallen victim to such scams in 2024, prompting RBI and police departments to issue repeated warnings. Cyber awareness is the best defense.
