In 2025, countries around the world have introduced significant changes to their visa policies, affecting international travelers, students, and job seekers.
The Schengen Zone is shifting to a fully digital visa system, allowing QR-code-based e-visas and easing multiple-entry access for frequent travelers. The United States has reduced visa wait times and introduced AI-based screening for H-1B and B1/B2 visas. The UK has increased income requirements for family and skilled visas while limiting dependents on student visas. Canada, on the other hand, has tightened its student visa rules with higher proof-of-fund requirements and institution-level scrutiny. Meanwhile, Australia has revised its PR points system and capped international student intakes in certain regions. Emerging changes in countries like the UAE, Japan, and South Korea also indicate a trend toward tech-enabled, security-focused visa systems. As policies become more dynamic and selective, travelers and students must stay informed and plan their journeys with updated guidelines to avoid visa delays or rejection.
