2025 is shaping up to be the hottest year in recorded history, with North India experiencing severe and prolonged heatwaves. Temperatures have crossed 47°C in parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi-NCR, causing widespread disruption. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts in several regions, urging people to stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM.

Several state governments have ordered temporary school closures due to health risks posed to children. Hospitals are reporting a rise in heatstroke and dehydration cases, and power grids are under pressure due to soaring demand for air conditioning and water pumping.
Experts link this extreme weather to accelerating climate change, fueled by urbanization, deforestation, and rising greenhouse gas emissions. Global meteorological agencies warn that such events may become more frequent and intense in the coming years unless urgent action is taken to cut carbon emissions and improve green infrastructure.
Environmentalists are calling for immediate climate adaptation plans, heat shelters, and awareness campaigns to protect vulnerable populations, especially the elderly, children, and outdoor laborers.
