CBSE’s Two-Phase Exam Plan for Class 10 Draws Mixed Reactions from Principals

The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) proposal to implement a two-phase board examination system for Class 10 students has triggered a wave of mixed responses from school principals across the country. While some educators welcome the move as a step toward continuous assessment and reduced exam stress, others express concerns over logistical challenges and added academic pressure.

Supporters believe that dividing the board exams into two parts — one in mid-year and the second at the end — could better track student progress and allow for course corrections. However, critics argue it may disrupt the school calendar and increase mental burden on students and teachers alike. As CBSE gathers feedback from stakeholders, the debate continues over whether this dual-exam model can truly balance academic rigor with student well-being.
