Aircraft Takes Off from Kanpur for First Cloud-Seeding Trial in Delhi

Aircraft Takes Off from Kanpur for First Cloud-Seeding Trial in Delhi

In a significant step toward weather modification, an aircraft from Kanpur has departed to carry out Delhi’s first cloud-seeding trial. The exercise, scheduled to take place over Burari, aims to induce artificial rainfall in an effort to reduce air pollution and improve air quality in the national capital. According to officials from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cloud-seeding operation will be conducted only if suitable cloud conditions are present.
The initiative is part of a joint effort between IIT Kanpur, the Delhi government, and the IMD to explore scientific methods of combating severe pollution levels. If successful, the trial could pave the way for large-scale weather modification projects across other Indian cities facing similar air quality challenges.
