🧭 Context & Background

Operation Akhal is considered one of the largest counter-terror operations in Jammu & Kashmir in 2025. It was launched following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 civilians.

The militants neutralized in this operation are believed to be members of The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The operation follows two earlier coordinated strikes:

Operation Mahadev (July 28): Eliminated masterminds of the Pahalgam attack.

Operation Shiv Shakti (July 29–30): Killed two terrorists near the LoC in Poonch.
